Prep Briefs, explained
A Prep Brief is the page Recordist shows you before a meeting with people you have met before. It answers the questions you would otherwise scroll for: what did we decide, what do I owe them, what do they owe me, what is still open.
Where it comes from
Your own past meetings. When a calendar event is about ten minutes away, Recordist matches the attendees’ names and emails against the attendees of previous meetings, then pulls from those meetings:
- Last time you decided: decision notes, newest first.
- You owe them: open action items assigned to you.
- They owe you: open action items assigned to those attendees.
- Open questions: open-question notes that were never resolved.
No model is called and no network is used; it is assembled from the notes and action items already on your computer. That is why it is a Free feature and why it works on a plane. Because it is built from generated notes, it can inherit their mistakes; the lines link to the transcript so you can check.
Where it appears
In the menu bar or system tray (the ember square shows a small badge), on the confirm-to-record card when the call starts, and on the meeting page afterwards under Prep. Clicking any line jumps to the moment in the past transcript.
Making it better
- Grant calendar access so attendees are known before the call (why titles matter).
- Tick off action items when they are done; the brief only lists open ones.
- Rename the remote speaker in past meetings so quotes are attributed.
Turning it off
Settings → Prompt → Show Prep Brief. Off means the brief is still built and available on the meeting page, but not surfaced before the call.
