Why the first launch says the app is from an unidentified developer

macOS shows this warning for any app that has not been signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple. Recordist’s early builds are not yet, so you will see it on first launch. It does not mean the download is damaged or altered.

How to open it

1. In Applications, right-click (or Control-click) Recordist.
2. Choose Open.
3. In the dialog, click Open again.

macOS remembers the choice; you will not be asked again for that build. On macOS 15 and later you may instead need System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after the first attempt.

How to verify the download first

Every release publishes SHA256SUMS.txt. In Terminal, in your Downloads folder:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing

You should see Recordist_aarch64.dmg: OK. The full steps are on the download page.

A side effect worth knowing

Because unsigned builds have no stable identity, macOS may forget the Microphone and Screen & System Audio Recording permissions when you update. If a recording after an update comes out silent, re-grant both in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

When this goes away

Signing and notarisation are the first item on our launch list. When they land, this page will say so and the download page will drop the warning text.
