Chrome extension
The desktop app already notices browser meetings, because Chrome opens the microphone like any other app. The extension adds what the operating system cannot see: the meeting’s title, its address and who is on the call, so the prompt and your notes are labelled properly. It also lets you drop a marker from the toolbar.
The extension records nothing itself. It talks only to the Recordist app on your own machine and nowhere else. It never reads audio, video or your screen.
Supported sites
Google Meet, Microsoft Teams on the web, the Zoom web client, Webex on the web, and Slack huddles.
Getting it
The extension is optional; browser calls are detected and recorded without it. It is being prepared for the Chrome Web Store, and this page and the Help Center will say when it is listed. Until then, if you want it early, write to [email protected]. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc (Chrome 120 or later).
Pairing it with the app
Pairing is a one-time handshake so that nothing else in your browser can talk to Recordist by pretending to be the extension.
- In Recordist, open Settings → Extension. A 6-digit code appears.
- Click the extension icon and type the code.
- Done. The code expires after two minutes and works once.
To unpair, choose Forget pairing in the extension’s options, or revoke it in Recordist under Settings → Extension.
What it does during a call
- When a meeting page is active and your microphone is on, the extension tells the desktop app, which shows its usual confirm-to-record card with the title and participants filled in. The extension cannot start a recording on its own; you still click Record.
- A small ember dot on the extension icon shows while the app is recording.
- The toolbar button drops a marker, the same as the hotkey.

It does not request access to other websites, your browsing history or your other tabs, and it loads no remote code and runs no analytics.
Troubleshooting
- “Recordist is not running” in the popup: open the desktop app. The extension can only talk to it while it is running.
- The prompt shows without a title: the page had not finished loading; the title is updated as soon as it appears. If it never does, the site may have changed its layout; please tell us.
- Pairing code rejected: codes expire after two minutes and are single-use. Start again from Settings → Extension.
