License keys
You don’t need an account. When you buy Pro, we email you a license key; paste it once into Settings → License and the app verifies it on your own computer, offline. That’s the whole system: there’s no login, no password and nothing to sign in to.
The Free plan needs no key at all.
Activating your key
- After checkout, your key arrives by email within a few minutes. It starts with
RECORDIST-and is long; copy the whole thing. - Open Recordist → Settings → License.
- Paste the key and click Activate. The plan name and renewal date appear immediately, and Pro features switch on without a restart.
Keys are personal. Please don’t post or share them.
Using it on more than one computer

We trust you on this rather than counting devices. When you retire a machine, Settings → License → Deactivate removes the key from it.
Renewals
Your key is valid for the period you paid for, plus a seven-day grace period. When your subscription renews, a fresh key is emailed to you automatically; paste it over the old one. If a key expires, Recordist simply returns to the Free plan: nothing is deleted and recording keeps working.
Lost your key?
- In the app: Settings → License → Recover key, then type the email you used at checkout. The key is resent to that address. This is the one action on this page that contacts us, and it sends only the checkout email you type in.
- Without the app: reply to your receipt email, or write to [email protected].
Refunds and cancelling
Any purchase can be refunded in full within 14 days, no questions asked (how refunds work). You can cancel at any time from the link in your receipt (how to cancel); you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
For Team buyers
The Team purchase email contains a link to a license dashboard where the buyer can add or remove seats (billing adjusts pro-rata), issue and revoke keys for team members, set policy (maximum audio retention, allowed AI providers, whether remote start is permitted) and publish shared templates. Policies and templates are carried inside each member’s key, so enforcing them needs no server connection; members paste the new key when policy changes.
How it works, for the curious
A key is two blocks of text: a payload (plan, seat count, a one-way hash of your purchase email, issue date and expiry) and a digital signature over it. The app ships with the public half of the signing key, so it can prove a key is genuine without asking anyone. The private half exists only in our license service, never on your machine.
