If you are studying business, marketing or communications and want real sales experience before you graduate, this is a good place to get it. You work beside the founder on a product people trust with their client calls, and you leave with work you can show.
Recordist writes up client calls, and the record stays with the person who made it. Nothing joins the call as a bot, and the audio never reaches us. By default it asks before it records. People use it on Mac, Windows and Linux and in Chrome.
The placement
This is a part-time internship for academic credit through your college or university program. It fits around your classes, for one or two terms, starting with the Winter term in January. Before you start, your school confirms the placement, and together we agree a written learning plan, your supervisor and how you will be evaluated.
What you will learn
- How professionals who answer to clients choose software, and who has to say yes
- How to run a discovery call: asking, listening and writing down what you heard
- How to show a product honestly, including what it does not do
- How to find the organizations professionals trust, and write a proposal they can say yes to
- How a software company decides what to sell and to whom, seen from the founder's side of the table
What you will do
- Get to know the people who choose Recordist, and write short briefs about them
- Map firms and organizations that fit, from public sources
- Draft first notes and proposals for the founder to review
- Sit in on calls with the founder, then lead parts of them with the founder beside you
- Bring what you hear back into what we build
What you get
- A real placement, with a written learning plan, regular time with the founder and honest feedback every week
- Work you can point to: the briefs, maps and proposals you wrote, and a playbook of your own
- Hours that fit around your classes, from wherever you are in Ontario
- Direct work with the people who design and build Recordist
- If it is a good fit at the end, a conversation about what comes next. There is no promise of a job
You will do well here if
- You start things without waiting to be asked
- You would rather try, learn and adjust than wait for a perfect plan
- You question how things are usually done, and you have ideas for doing them better
- You listen more than you talk
- You want feedback, and you use it
You do not need to match every line above, and no sales experience is needed. If this sounds like something you want to learn, apply. We would rather hear from you than miss you.
How to apply
- Follow Recordist on LinkedIn and X, and read a few of our posts. Question 4 below asks about them.
- Download Recordist and use it on at least one real call or meeting, ideally about 30 minutes, where everyone on the call has agreed to be recorded. A practice call with a friend counts.
- Press Apply now. It opens an email to careers@recordist.app with the five questions, a few quick details and room for your feedback, all laid out. Fill it in, attach your resume or a cover letter (PDF or Word), and send it.
Not sure your program offers credit for a placement? Apply anyway and ask your placement office. We can help with the paperwork.
Please do not send the recording or the transcript. If Recordist will not run on your laptop, tell us and we will give you another task.
The five questions
- Tell us about something you started on your own, without anyone asking you to. What happened?
- Tell us about a time you thought the usual way of doing something was wrong. What did you do about it?
- A year from now, what would you want to point to and say "I made that happen"?
- What is one thing we posted on LinkedIn or X that you would push back on, and why?
- Which part of this placement do you most want to learn, and why?
Who can apply
Students currently enrolled at a publicly assisted Ontario college or university, living in Ontario, whose program will approve this placement for academic credit as a practicum, field placement, course project or co-op work term. Business, commerce, marketing and communications programs fit well, and others are welcome. International students need the work permit their program requires for a placement, and your school confirms it.
How we hire
A person reads every application, and everyone who applies hears from us within two business days. We use AI tools to organize applications and draft our replies, and a person makes every decision. If you need an accommodation at any step, tell us. A placement starts only once your school confirms it in writing. We keep applications for 12 months after we decide, then delete them.
